Season 24 was the first full season for The Hippies.
It started out well with some nice results but soon it became clear that Hagman could not live up to his potential. Maybe it was the pressure of being put in the position of captain too soon or maybe it was just bad luck. Hagman, who had 'very good' potential for climbing, downhilling and flat road, proved himself as a good lieutenant for McVining.
McVining, the 24 year old Scottish talent, lived up to his potential. Already having reached an average of 52 and scores of 70+ on climbing, downhilling and sprinting made him an excellent captain for hilly sprinting stages.
After Morwell - Sale, his first race of the new season, he will go back into training and once he has reached his maximum potential he will go to the Physics and Aerodynamics Center Vejle to improve his time trialing abilities.
Season 24 was a particularly succesful one as well for The Hippies. The team moved up from division 8 to division 4 in only a couple of weeks.
From may 21st till may 28th, Hagman secured two 2nd places and 1st place while McVining scored 2 second place in the Letshop Race and Fundão GP.
From that moment onwards, it was clear to The Machine that McVining was ready for the captainship. Balancing on the brink of promotion, he signed McVining up for Nowe Brusno GP, Lago di Cavazzo Race and Aridea Grandprix. McVining managed to secure the win in the first two races and, with a DP of only 68 before the race started, scored a second place in the last race as well.
The Hippies moved up several division and were able to compete in the Bali Classic in division 5. In that classic, Hagman managed to secure a third place while McVining was still too tired from the other races and did not manage to finish in the top 10. Both The Machine and Hagman himself were very happy with his performance in the Bali Classic. The Machine said the following about his third place: If there is any rider who deserves a good result, it is Hagman. After losing the captainship to McVining he did not complain for a second and has given his best to support the team. It is nice for him that he got the chance to shine in this race.''
Four days after the Bali Classic, McVining's dp was restored to 76 points and he immediately secured a the last podium spot in Vestmannaeyjabær GP, allowing the Hippies to move up yet another division.
After this great season, it is time to set some ambitious goals for next season.
Goals for season 25:
-Do not fall below division 4 anymore.
-Stay in the top 50 of Dutch teams.
-Acquire a Co-captain to share the load with McVining, prefferably via scouting.
-Acquire two strong team mates to increase the support for the captain(s).
These are the goals The Hippies will be trying to achieve next season and The Machine is confident they will be able to do so.
